There were a lot of delicious food from diverse countries!! Yum~
Let’s see what happens in Mannam Korean 2A Class this week.
Today, we studied some vocabulary what we learned in level 2A with the speed game.
This is how to play this game.
1. First of all, we divide all the students into two teams and the leader of each team comes to the front and looks at their team members.
2. The members in each team need to explain the vocab on the board in Korean.
3.The leader needs to give answers about what their team member explain.
4. After we finish the game, we take the seat again and go over all the right answers as well as mistakes.
This time, there were 3 vocabulary given from the teacher.
“같다(To be the same)”, “도착하다(To arrive)”, “구경하다(To look around/ have a look)”
It is difficult to memorize the new vocabulary always, and even harder to explain them in Korean,
However, it’s great time to study with the fun game which is more productive.
If you practice more for explaining some vocabulary in Korean, your Korean will be improved more quickly.
All the best wishes to who studies Korean language. 🙂

On Sunday March 10th, volunteers carried soil for the restoration of the destroyed forest at Mt. Bukhan.
We had a “Mannam Volunteer Day” at Mt. Bukhan, and it was a great opportunity to do some nice work for the earth and nature.
The campaign to save the mountain began the minute we arrived at Mt. Bukhan. The purpose of the event was to relay the message, “Do not litter your cigarette butts on the mountain.”
The students studying with Mannam Korean class shouted “산불을 조심합시다 (Let us prevent Forest Fires)” to people passing by.
We thought this would be an easy task of carrying the bags of soil, however, we were mistaken.
It was really hard to carry the bags of soil in each hand.
We put the soil in the plastic bags so we could carry it around the destroyed forest, and cover the roots that were exposed.
When we were exhausted, we took a short break and chat for a while under the trees.
We are given so many things from the nature without any cost or being asked to pay
So we need to love the nature and protect them.

As a Soldier stationed in Korea, I have access to a variety of free Korean language courses and learning materials. I’ve used them all: classroom education, Rosetta Stone software, learning materials from the Defense Language Institute (who train U.S. military linguists), and learning materials from the Foreign Service Institute (who train U.S. diplomats and spies). Mannam Korean class is the one study aid I cannot do without. The curriculum and course materials are time-tested and authored by a local university, the volunteer teachers know their stuff, but most importantly, you really get to take some meaningful steps towards acquiring a new language, instead of just memorizing some useful survival phrases.
What particularly stands out about Mannam Korean class is how much fun I have. They make it a genuine pleasure to learn Korean, and there are many opportunities to participate in social and volunteer events if you want to. I find myself eagerly anticipating the end of the week, once a week, when I can take a break from the reality of being a Soldier and immerse myself in language and culture.
It’s been over half a year since I started learning Korean with Mannam. While I am not yet fluent, several of my friends have noticed my enthusiasm in attending Mannam Korean class and they have since joined the basic class. I often hear one of them mention to me that he wished I had persuaded him to take these classes earlier. It’s amazing just how much more enjoyable living Korea can be when you start understanding the language and culture. Thank you, Mannam teachers, for sharing your culture with me and making my stay in here a more meaningful and pleasant experience.

Today, Shavkat from 3A class made a presentation.
It was about Charity Forum Marathon which is one of the Peace Campaigns in Uzbekistan. It was an excellent and beautiful culture.
* The summary of the presentation
Charitable forum marathon, “In the Name of Life” of Uzbekistan
1. Aim: It is an annual campaign to raise the awareness of women to prevent breast cancer through regular check-up.
2. Activities: It is a International Breast Cancer Union, which holds annually. This started from 2010 Spring. In 2012, 40,000 people gathered for the event and collected $60,000 through the charity. This money was donated to be used for the treatment of women suffering from breast cancer. It is a national marathon which is participated by every member from each social class; kindergardens, primary, middle, and high school students, university students, parents, celebrities and international players.
Due to Shavkat’s fabulous presentation, 3A students were able to know a very good campaign in Uzbekistan. After the presentation, students from diverse countries introduced the campaigns going on in their own countries. It was a very good time to know one another’s culture.

I have been attending mannam Korean Classes for about a year now, and it has been one of the best experiences I have ever had, they are very friendly, very knowledgeable about culture. All of the teachers that teach are Korean so you get to know Korean language from volunteers that have spoken it their entire life. I would definitely recommend taking Korean class with mannam if you get the chance.
